Social Commitment
Making a difference together – locally and globally.
As a company in the field of ophthalmology, we take responsibility – beyond our products and technologies. For many years, Geuder has been committed to projects and initiatives that improve access to ophthalmic care, promote medical knowledge and strengthen sustainable structures in healthcare.

BMBF-Funded Research Project BEST VISION
As part of the BMBF funding programme KMU-innovativ: Medical Technology, Geuder is conducting research in the BEST VISION project together with partners on new microsurgical approaches for treating retinal vascular occlusions. The aim is to develop highly precise ophthalmic instruments capable of puncturing and cannulating retinal vessels, with the long-term perspective of revascularisation via a microsurgical stenting system. The project combines Geuder’s longstanding expertise in instrument technology with scientific and clinical research. In collaboration with Acquandas GmbH and the Klinikum Ludwigshafen, instrument concepts are being developed, tested preclinically and progressively optimised. The focus is on particularly demanding challenges in retinal surgery: maximum precision at minimal dimensions, safe guidance of the finest instruments, reliable visibility in the surgical field and reproducible application under microsurgical conditions. In this way, Geuder is contributing to the development of innovative solutions for retinal vascular diseases.

The Cusco Project
Direct help on the ground — Cusco, Peru
The bare figures are alarming: worldwide there are 150 million people with eye disease or visual impairment, 45 million are blind – 90% of them in poor countries. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 80% of these cases blindness could be prevented or remedied through prophylactic measures or medical interventions, provided adequate medical equipment, suitable infrastructure and well-trained physicians were available.

The Platform
Partner for ophthalmic surgical aid projects
The aim of the platform is to collect used and no longer needed ophthalmic surgical instruments and device systems, repair them and make them available to physicians for ophthalmic surgical missions abroad.

Sankara Geuder Competence Center
The Geuder Training Centre in Bangalore, India
With the Sankara Geuder Competence Center (SGCC) in Bangalore, we support the continuing education of ophthalmic surgeons and ophthalmic medical professionals in India. The need for professionally trained ophthalmologists in India is high: the country requires an estimated 25,000 ophthalmologists and a further 20,000 ophthalmic healthcare professionals.
