Making DMEK surgeries more plannable, simpler, safer and faster, and relocating validation and preparation to where they can be carried out most routinely and efficiently — in the cornea bank — were the goals of the successful collaboration between Prof. Peter Szurman (Sulzbach Eye Clinic), the DGFG (German Society for Tissue Transplantation) and Geuder AG. With the introduction of DMEK Rapid, the first CE-certified DMEK preloading system, eye surgeons can now obtain preloaded Descemet lamellae as LaMEK preloaded directly from a DGFG tissue bank, just as they are accustomed to with preloaded IOL injectors for cataract surgeries.
