Product description
In the Yamane double-needle technique, the sclerotomy positions are located through the combined use of an axis marker, calipers and dye. In addition, there is no control over the recommended insertion angles for creating the scleral tunnels when puncturing through the conjunctiva into the sclera. The combination of these variables poses a challenge to reproducibility and standardization.
The Yamane double-needle stabilizer simplifies locating the sclerotomy positions and provides control over the insertion angles for creating the intrascleral tunnels. Thanks to its ring shape and the fixating teeth, it also offers excellent fixation of the eye while the needles are being inserted.
The instrument has two orientation points for visualizing the sclerotomy positions, located 2 mm from the limbus and 180° apart from each other. It thus replaces the use of an axis marker, calipers and dye.
Since it is difficult to insert a needle freehand at a specific angle, the instrument provides two grooved plates to guide the needles through the ring-shaped grooves. This makes it possible to insert the needles at a predefined angle of 20° relative to the limbus and 10° relative to the iris surface, in order to create reproducible scleral tunnels and to avoid stress on the IOL haptics.
